retale

Cookie Policy

Version 1.1 — Effective 14 October 2026

This page lists exactly what retale stores in your browser, checked against the site’s own code. It’s short because retale doesn’t track you. We’ll update it before that ever changes.

The short version

retale doesn’t set any cookies of its own, and doesn’t use analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind. We use your browser’s storage to keep you signed in and to remember a few choices you make. Stripe, our payment provider, sets its own cookies when you pay or set up payouts.

What retale stores in your browser

Instead of cookies, retale uses your browser’s “local storage” and “session storage”. They work like cookies, but stay on your device and aren’t sent to us automatically.

NameWhat it’s forHow long it stays
retale_access_tokenProves you’re signed in when you use retaleRenewed every 15 minutes while you’re using retale; removed when you sign out
retale_refresh_tokenKeeps you signed in between visitsUp to 30 days, or until you sign out
retale_near_you_postcodeRemembers the postcode you gave for “Books near you”Until you change it or clear your browser’s storage
retale_near_you_radius_milesRemembers the distance you chose for “Books near you”Until you change it or clear your browser’s storage
retale_browse_results:…When you go back to a list of Books, shows it straight awayUntil you close the tab (session storage)
retale_browse_scroll:…When you go back to a list of Books, returns you to where you wereUntil you close the tab (session storage)

UK law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations) lets a website store things like these without asking, because they’re strictly necessary for a service you’ve asked for, or remember choices you’ve made. None of them is used to track you or shared with anyone. That’s why retale doesn’t show a cookie banner. If we ever add anything that needs your consent, such as analytics or advertising, we’ll ask first.

Other companies’ cookies and content

WhoWhenWhat happens
StripeOn the checkout page, when paying for return postage, and when you set up or manage payoutsStripe sets its own cookies, such as __stripe_mid and __stripe_sid, to prevent fraud and make payments work
SendcloudOn the checkout pages, where you can choose a parcel locker or parcel shop on Sendcloud’s mapYour browser fetches it from Sendcloud, which receives your IP address and browser details, as any website you load something from does
Open Library (Internet Archive), and CloudflareWhen book covers and listing photos are shownYour browser fetches the images from these servers, which receive your IP address in the same way

Our web fonts are served from retale’s own servers, not Google’s.

Controlling storage and cookies

You can clear cookies and storage at any time in your browser’s settings. That signs you out of retale and forgets your “Books near you” choices, but doesn’t affect your Account or anything you’ve listed, bought or sold. See our Privacy Policy for everything else about your information.
